7 Reasons Monarch’s Gardens Thrive

All of our gardens are unique spaces, but they have 7 things in common to guarantee they thrive!

  1. 2’ tall raised garden beds: Not only do raised beds drain better, look lovely, and allow us to make sure the soil is top notch - they are comfortable. If you’re over the age of 12, who wants to squat for fun? Not. Me.

  2. Inviting pathways: gravel, stepping stones, and wide pathways make the garden inviting (and keep it from being a muddy mess). We’ve learned people actually enjoy going to their garden if getting to it is enjoyable!

  3. Magic Soil: Our beds have our unique blend of soil/compost. We’ve been perfecting our soil over the years, and we think it’s downright bewitched at this point! No matter where you live or get your soil - don’t skimp on quality organic soil and compost! Local nurseries are a great place to go for your soil products. If you're in Houston, we deliver our favorite compost!

  4. Drip Irrigation: Drip irrigation uses water most efficiently by only watering the plants where they actually need it: the roots! It’s also is the best way to consistently water beds. Our beds are hooked to our clients’ sprinkler control system so they never have to remember to water! Score!

  5. Tall, sturdy trellising: Plants that need to climb (cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, peas, Malabar spinach, etc) need vertical growing space! Our gorgeous trellises are solid steel, last forever, are the perfect height, and anyone in the Houston area can purchase them!

  6. Lots of plants: If there’s soil showing - it’s an invitation to plant something! Plant spacing rules? Nah. We make our own rules!

  7. Diversity in every bed: each bed has a mixture of herbs, flowers, and food-bearing plants! We’ve found the more diverse our beds are the stronger and more resilient they are!
